London, UK and Munich, Germany – 10th October 2017 – Boston Limited are pleased to be showcasing the new Boston Flash-IO Talyn Server in a NVMe over Fabrics and GPU rendering demonstration at the GPU Technology Conference (GTC) Europe, Munich, 2017.

Bringing together the latest technology from Mellanox, Micron and Supermicro, Boston has partnered with Excelero to provide a scalable NVMe over Fabrics storage solution using Excelero’s award-winning NVMesh® server SAN software and adds another piece to our vision of the Software Defined Datacenter.

The solution solves one of the biggest challenges in computing today - shared access to NVMe flash storage volumes at the low latency and high-performance required by GPU-based applications, yet with minimum processor overhead. Employing Excelero’s server SAN along with other leading technologies such as RoCE v2 and 100Gbit/s EDR InfiniBand or 100GbE from Mellanox’s Connect-X 5 range, processor overhead and latency is kept low, whilst bandwidth is plentiful.

Named Most Innovative Flash Memory Technology at the Flash Memory Summit in August, NVMesh is a Software-Defined Block Storage solution that features Elastic NVMe, a distributed block layer that allows unmodified applications to utilise pooled NVMe storage devices across a network at local speeds and latencies. Distributed NVMe storage resources are pooled with the ability to create arbitrary, dynamic block volumes that can be utilised by any host running the NVMesh block client. These virtual volumes can be striped, mirrored or both while enjoying centralised management, monitoring and administration.

The Boston Flash-IO Talyn will be on live demonstration at GTC Europe on stand G.05 coupled with a GPU server solution showcasing V-Ray by BETA Tester Andre Matos from Chaos Group.

Manoj Nayee, Managing Director, Boston Limited, says; “Big Data Analytics, the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence are all new applications that have a big impact on storage workloads, all of them requiring significant transformation to storage architectures. Boston and Excelero have collaborated to build a solution from the ground up to meet the requirements of these new application workloads.”

“New GPU-based application workloads are driving the need for new storage architectures, and we’re delighted to partner with Boston Limited to enable this in the Boston Flash IO Talyn Server,” adds Lior Gal, CEO and co-founder of Excelero. “We’re proud to work alongside the leading technologies from Mellanox, Micron and Supermicro so that Boston Limited customers have access to shared primary storage with efficiencies akin to those of the most efficient data centers.”

About Excelero

Excelero enables enterprises and service providers to design scale-out storage infrastructures leveraging standard servers and high-performance flash storage. Founded in 2014 by a team of storage veterans and inspired by the tech giants’ shared-nothing architectures for web-scale applications, the company has designed a software-defined block storage solution that meets performance and scalability requirements of the largest web-scale and enterprise applications.

With Excelero’s NVMesh, customers can build distributed, high-performance server SAN for mixed application workloads. Customers benefit from the performance of local flash, with the convenience of centralized storage while avoiding proprietary hardware lock-in and reducing the overall storage TCO. The solution has been deployed for hyper-scale Industrial IoT services, machine learning applications and massive-scale simulation visualization.
